      About Us

      A Beloved Figure

A true profile of courage and perseverance, Vicki Minor has become a beloved figure for wildland firefighters across the globe. In 1994 the tragic loss of 14 firefighters on Storm King Mountain in Colorado spurred Vicki to raise money for the families who lost loved ones. Through hard work and dedication, over 100k was raised and given to a charity. Much to her dismay, Vicki found that none of the money donated actually made it to the families. Devastated, yet determined, Vicki "looked to the heavens" and made a vow to the fallen firefighters she would devote the rest of her life to aid the families of firefighters who struggle to pay bills, need medical and other expenses and help navigate the paperwork and red-tape to help the families get the funds they need to survive. Vicki founded The Wildland Firefighter Foundation in her kitchen.Today the WFF is the epicenter of direct support to the courageous wildland firefighters and their Families.

      It came in a dream

While interviewing families of fallen firefighters for a documentary feature, film-maker Scott Briggs heard the first-hand stories of the amazing love, help and compassion Vicki has for the families of the fallen. He immediately flew to Boise to spend time with Vicki and her son Burk.

"Spending time at the WFF and experiencing directly the impact the dedicated staff has with the wildland community. The love and concern Vicki and Burk have for this community is unsurpassed. Vicki and Burk have become family to me and I know most of the wild land firefighting community feels the same. They truly are the Make-A-Wish for the wildland firefighters."

Back home, a vivid dream later spurred the idea of a movie telling the inspiring story of Vicki and the creation of the WFF. Briggs wrote the script of the movie he dreamed and with help from veteran casting director Emily Roth, a magnificent cast and crew were assembled. A "Doc-u-drama" featuring Director Tucker Debevec and starring Sue Rowe and Jason Ruffoni was filmed in August-October 2021.
